HASLETT - The Haslett girls varsity lacrosse team defeated Swartz Creek, 14-4, on Wednesday night.

"So we had some good plays, had lots of good passes and catches. We did good transitioning the ball," Haslett head coach Bronti Belanger said. "We gotta work on our draws, getting those all the time, but I think we have a lot of good things going for us, but we're ready to take on the next game and keep going."

An even game for about the first eight minutes, the Vikings take off on a streak of seven goals.

They keep Swartz Creek at only one goal in the first half.

Haslett leads the Dragons, 9-1.

The Wednesday game was the last home match for the seniors, making it senior night.

Haslett has four seniors graduating in the class of 2016.

All four walked with their parents through a tunnel made by their teammates, who applauded them for their hard work and dedication to the team.

"We're gonna miss them greatly, you know, they were a great asset to the team, they really developed over the years. They've played and have really added to the team as a dynamic and a whole," Belanger said.

The Dragons come out spitting fire in the second half, scoring two goals in less than five minutes.

Swartz Creek keeps Haslett scoreless during that time, keeping possession of the ball for most of the time.

Six minutes go scoreless, until the Vikings manage to get a pass from behind the goal and put one in to end their drought.

"I'd say just (we have to start) connecting our passes a little bit more, getting the ball in the back of the net, not hitting the goalie as much and making those draws," Belanger said.

With a little under 15 minutes left, Haslett is up 10-3.

This time, Haslett comes from behind the goal, breaking through the Dragons' defense and puts one in over a Swartz Creek defender's shoulder and the opponent's goalie.

The Vikings get two more up on the scoreboard before Swartz Creek shoots from a distance and makes it.

Haslett's goalie is able to get most of Swartz Creek's shots, but this one goes over and the Dragons make it four for the Vikings' thirteen.

Within a matter of seconds, Haslett answers with a goal of their own.

The final score at the Haslett field is 14-4 for the Vikings.

"Next we have a game June 1st against either Saginaw Heritage or Flushing and we're looking forward to doing the same things we did tonight and keeping it going and keep improving," Belanger said.
