OKEMOS - The Okemos varsity softball team topped Haslett, 9-2.
The rivals faced off on Tuesday after a rainy and stormy night on Monday.
MSU baseball head coach, Jake Boss Jr., made an appearance to watch the two teams' matchup.
Okemos had scored six runs at the end of the fourth inning, keeping the Vikings at just one.
"I thought we were aggressive with the bats, we're really trying to come out, swing, get the ball on the ball, make them have some plays. I thought we got our drags and out bunts down, which were instrumental moving our base runners, so those were good things," head coach Chrissy Schoonover said.
The Chiefs' pitcher, on fire, had no mercy on Haslett.
Her pitches went right past the girls at bat, forcing the strikes.
One out, two out, three out.
Then it was Okemos' turn to bat.
The Chiefs stole three bases in the last three innings.
Okemos' Hope Morrissey with a high and far hit gives way for Eizabeth Knox to make it to home base and score one for the Chefs.
Fumbling with the ball, the Vikings still struggled with long passes and communication in the outfield, compared to Okemos' loud and clear communication.
Okemos slows down after the fifth, but manages to get three more.
At the bottom of the six, a Haslett batter hits it far in the outfield and is able to run to third base.
She scores one more run, sliding to home base and barely making it, to make it two total for the Vikings.
There is still room for improvement for the Chiefs, but Schoonover said she was happy with what she saw.
"We're kind of in a little bit of a rut," Schoonover said. "We're playing against some really good teams and we're hanging in there with some of them. We kind of just need to get our mojo, feeling good about the things we were learning and getting better with. So it's kind of our goal for this week."
Okemos will travel to Lansing on Thursday to play Sexton at 4 p.m., while Haslett will face Waverly at 4 p.m. at home on May 5.
