HASLETT - The Haslett Hot Yoga ribbon cutting ceremony happened at 11 am Friday.
Although the store has been up and running since February, it had never had the official community welcome ceremony.
"Hilltop Yoga used to be in this location and we heard that Hillary, the owner of Hilltop whom we love very much, was consolidating her studios into her old town location and so we heard that this lease was up and though 'what a wonderful location," Haslett Hot Yoga Co-Owner Patty Sutherland said. "So since the first of January we've had it, and opened in the beginning of February after doing remodel, different thing."
Sutherland said the location was great, because her co-owner, Samantha Marina lives only two blocks from the studio.
Patty Sutherland also owns or co-owns East Lansing Hot Yoga, Mt. Pleasant Hot Yoga and Firefly Hot Yoga.
"East Lansing is just so successful and turning people away is agonizing, so so it's wonderful to give people options in the community," Sutherland said. "Hot Yoga is just growing exponentially, and once you try it you don't really want to go back to normal temperature unless you have issues with the heat. It's so therapeutic and invigorating and we love it.
The East Lansing store opened in 2011.
Haslett Hot Yoga's grand opening for the public will be Saturday, April 30, at 9 a.m., when it will offer free classes for people who want to try it and for regular customers.
"We've been just so blessed because so many of the Haslett community has come back that used to practiced at Hilltop and people come here from East Lansing so it's worked," Sutherland said.
The new studio has a front lobby with clothing, yoga mats, towels and other things for sale.
On the side, there is the hot yoga classroom, where the temperature is usually above 100 degrees.
"All yoga is good, the regular and hot. We just prefer hot because you can go deeper into poses, it does burn more calories and the sweating is detoxing and really invigorating," Sutherland said.
In the back of the studio, there is also a barre classroom, with a wooden floor and mirrors.
Classes that take place in the barre room can also use weights, exercise balls and elastic bands.
