OKEMOS - The Okemos Chieftains Varsity Hockey Team lost to Portage Northern High School last Friday, at the Suburban Ice Arena.
Okemos Coach Bill Sipola brought his team into this game with an even 1-1 record, trying to break 500 on the season. But the Portage Northern Huskies were not rolling over for the Chieftains, nor the home crowd.
Okemos started out strong scoring the first goal of the game. Portage Northern answered back with a goal of its own and it was tied at one at the end of one.
In the second both teams battled for momentum and control of the game. Portage Northern came out on top striking first against the Chieftains in the second, who responded with one of their own to even the score at two all.
Portage Northern went on a run scoring two goals, while Okemos added one, ending the 2nd period four to three Portage Northern Huskies lead.
The third period was all Portage Northern as they tacked on two more scores to bring us the final score of six to three.
