OKEMOS, MI - You could smell the grilling hot dogs from the road at Okemos High school this past Saturday afternoon as neighboring rivals Haslett and Okemos squared off in a double-header.
First pitch was thrown at 10:00 a.m. and not long after the Vikings Luke Sleeper was sending the Chiefs back to the dugout scoreless.
This is not Haslett and Okemos' first rodeo according to the Vikings' Brock Pringle, "Last year they got us. They had some good pitchers and this year we threw one of our best pitchers in, Luke (Sleeper) and he seemed to do well so that helped."
The Vikings are up a run In the fifth when Hunter Ruhstorfer hits one to bring two runners in and Haslett leads 5-1.
In the bottom of the seventh Brock Pringle smacks a ball to left field and three runners on base touch home to bring the lead 8-1.
The vikings win the first game 8-1. "Our pitching and defense really held up, Luke did a good job on the mound and we backed him up on defense and we swung the bats pretty well today," says Pringle.
Pringle had five RBI’S in the double-header, he received the golden bat award by his team for that one.
The Vikings' hitting and pitching only continued to improve in the second game and they took the back half 13-2.
They are away at Grand Ledge on Tuesday, first pitch is at 4:00 p.m.
