ACD.net Proposed Project to Improve
Cellular Connection Near Meridian Mall

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - ACD.net is a company based in Lansing, that focuses on the telecommunication industry.

During Tuesday's Township Board meeting they proposed a plan to place distributed antenna systems in six locations around Meridian Mall for the betterment of the community.

"Large cell tower carriers have found that they can't get them any closer to people, no one wants a 300 foot cell tower in their backyard," Sales Engineer Kevin Meeker said.

ACD.net developed and distributed antennas which sit on top of telephone poles and extend large towers' coverage to the small cell that sits on top of the telephone pole.

"It's a much more discrete way of providing cellular coverage," Meeker said.

Senior Project Manager Doreen Murphy expressed to the Township Board that these antenna systems can fulfill the plans they have for their community.

"Your future plans include bringing younger people into the community and developing the downtown area. We're hoping we can be a part of that plan by helping you have better coverage within the mall and extending our fiber throughout the community to provide that high speed access everyone wants now," Murphy said.

Township Treasurer Julie Brixie failed to see the need for these antenna systems to be placed around Meridian Mall after the ACD.net presentation.

"I don't understand that because every time I have been in the mall I have had absolutely no problem using my phone," Brixie said.

The Township Board did not come to a consensus and decided to refer this proposal to the Cable Communications Commission.
