MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - It's election day and there's nothing better than finding out why citizens feel it's important to come out and vote.
With that being said, HOMTV hit the streets to find out the latest scoop.
We asked why citizens came out to vote today and here are some of their responses:
"I always vote and always have voted however, this year I felt it was particularly important. Usually I'm sure who I want to vote for but this year I really wasn't. It's a privilege, it's a freedom that we have and if we don't continue to do that we may lose that," said Meridian Township resident Sheila Flynn.
"I believe very strongly that it's important for people to vote and really show support for candidates that they believe in and if people don't do anything then it's really not gonna make any changes," Haslett resident Emily Quinlan mentioned.
"I think it's your civic duty and if you want to see any change enacted in the world around you, you need to participate in government," said Haslett resident Aubrey Wigner.
"It has an impact on each and every one of us and every vote counts," Haslett resident Karen Kraft stated.
We also asked which presidential candidate residents voted for and why.
"John Kasich. I like the fact that he seems to be the only honest politician thats really seriously taking this whole process seriously," mentioned East Lansing resident Jeffrey Slabaugh.
"Bernie Sanders. I like him (laughs). I think he's truthful, I think he's a bit of a rebel and I think he's gonna do well for the country," Meridian Township resident Mary Lou Noak said.
"I voted for Hillary. I've been a Hillary fan ever since she's been in office and I think she is the smartest person for the job, she knows what she does well and she's done a great job in the past for helping people that need help. I think she's for the people," said Okemos resident Kathy Ford.
"I voted for Rubio today. I feel like he has a really modern and Republican stance on a lot of issues that I feel are important for our next president," Meridian Township resident Dylan Smith stated.
Presidential candidate Donald Trump wasn't all that lucky as many people weren't huge fans of his.
"He's a loose cannon," said East Lansing resident Donald Horner.
"I don't like what Donald Trump stands for," Haslett resident Mindy Mclellan stated.
But overall, residents couldn't stress enough how important they felt it was for citizens to come out and vote today.
"I think its very important that people make their voices heard. If we just stand by and don't do anything then we can't really complain about whats happening," said Haslett resident Emily Quinlan.
"We have the privilege to vote and just the freedom to be able to have a choice in that so why not take the opportunity if we have that privilege," Meridian Township resident Eric Smith mentioned.
"Its the only way to honestly express your opinion," said East Lansing resident Jeffrey Slabaugh.
