OKEMOS - Adding Michigan State recruit Taryn McCutcheon has put East Lansing (14-6) over the top as a contender for a state title, proving once again Friday night, as she single-handedly dismantled Okemos (6-13) at the point. McCutcheon's 28 points and shutdown defensive performance on Chiefs star guard Laya Hartman, led to a, 69-38, victory.
McCutcheon's damage was done early. giving her team a, 55-16, in the third quarter, allowing for all East Lansing starters to sit out the remainder of the game. The senior's stifling defense on Okemos' heavily-recruited freshman led to Hartman scoring a season-low four of six total points with McCutcheon on the court.
The Trojans have now won seven straight and 12 of its last 13 games, clinching first place in the CAAC Blue.
East Lansing travels to play Haslett (16-4) in a battle of the best from the CAAC Red and Blue divisions Monday night at 5 p.m.
The Okemos girls finished its regular season against East Lansing.
