EAST LANSING - The Chiefs glide by the Holt Rams on Friday night at the Summit Sports and Ice Complex, winning 8-2.
Okemos' league title celebration included throwing their helmets and sticks up in the air a team hug.
"The big key is that we skated," head coach Bill Sipola said. "We had to skate for the whole game and we came out hard in the first period and we played like we were capable of and that was the trick."
Okemos came out strong in the first period, scoring three goals and forcing the Rams to stay scoreless.
Holt answered early in the second period, scoring and knocking out the goal from its spot, but Okemos remained persistent.
Although Holt picked up the speed of the game, the Chiefs scored two more in the second period, widening the lead, 5-1.
The final period was similar to the second, with the Rams scoring one and the Chiefs three, bringing the final score to 8-2.
"When we skate hard we can beat anybody," Sipola said.
Okemos clinches the league title and the team celebrates on the ice by taking pictures with the trophy.
Winning the league trophy takes them to the playoffs.
"We just have to keep our spirit up, to keep our game at this level, because the competition gets tougher and tougher, so we gotta maintain our intensity," Sipola said.
