OKEMOS - The Okemos girls basketball team gained a new member this season. 14-year-old freshman, Laya Hartman is the starting point guard at Okemos High and the mark she has made on the team this season makes OHS girls basketball's future look bright.

Averaging 19 points a game, Laya has already received seven D1 scholarships and two of them that are ranked in the top 25. The school's include: Michigan, Michigan State, Villanova, Oregon State, Purdue, Minnesota, Wisconsin.

Laya's family makes sure the focus remains on her being a freshman, being a 14-year-old. Laya says she doesn't get overwhelmed by contacts from coaches, it just makes her play harder and show them what she can do.
