OKEMOS - After a years process, the Okemos High School Strength and Conditioning Center has officially opened to OHS staff and students. On Wednesday, February 17, Ira Childress, OHS Athletic Director, cut the ribbon to signify the official opening for use of the Center.
"Obviously it's not everyday when you get to add on to the building here," said Childress, "This state of the art strength and conditioning center will have the normal weights and racks, but also it'll have a new conditioning component, synthetic turf and open space is open for athletes to work on speed training or plyometrics."
The new Center is nearly 4,000 square feet and cost around $300,000. The project was paid for through the Okemos Public Schools Building and Site Sinking Fund. $30,000 was donated by the Okemos High School Athletics Boosters for the new equipment.
The TV's in the Center are placed there so sports teams can watch film on their opponents or even just watch their practices to hear critiques from their coaches while in the Center. The Center will not only be used by student-athletes, but by staff and regular students as well, during their P.E. classes.
