HASLETT - Haslett senior Brandon Allen has yet to meet a team that could contain his shot. His 31-point performance Friday night led his Vikings to a crucial, 62-55, playoff-sustaining victory.
Allen contributed to the Haslett hot start, but it was forward Luke Sleeper who put Saint Johns to sleep late in the game. His presence on the inside put the final nail into the coffin in the fourth quarter.
"This time of year when you are a couple of games down in your league race, every step is crucial, can't afford a slip up, and when you've got games on your home floor you've got to put forth the effort," Haslett head coach Chris Smith said after the game.
Injuries have hit the Vikings hard this season, putting them a bit behind in the standings, but winning three of their last four, they have a shot at the playoffs.
"We've kind of the righted the ship a little bit," Smith said.
"We're hoping to keep that momentum going. Huge week next week with Lansing Catholic and then DeWitt, and if we win those two games, it sets up possibly something good the following week with Waverly."
