EAST LANSING - The Okemos Chiefs bounced back on Saturday after a tough over-time loss the night before to shutout the Eastside Stars.
Four minutes into the first period, the Chiefs got on the board when Forward Jack Desautel took advantage of an Eastside turnover and faced up Goalie Czymbor Chase to bury the puck in the net.
Shortly after the Chiefs took a 2-0 lead after a breakout and rush play. Gage VanOrder was at the top of the face-off circle and connected with Center Anders Staky who was trailing the play to put the puck in the back of the net with a one-timer.
The Stars kept trying to generate some offense in the second period but after four consecutive minor penalties and some key saves by Chiefs Goalie Cole Hetrick, it was Okemos who once again got one the board with a goal by Cooper Anderson to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Chiefs forechecked the entire game and their commitment to defense limited the Stars to only 15 shots on the goal for the entire contest.
Late in the second period, the Chiefs made a man-advantage count when Desautel sealed the Chiefs' victory with a put-back goal to shutout the Stars, 4-0.
"We tried to get every lose puck and control the tempo, that was the goal," said Bill Sipola, the Chiefs head coach.
The Stars will get a chance for redemption this Friday at Suburban Ice Arena when they face the Chiefs in a second regular-season matchup, the puck drops at 8:30 P.M.
