MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - For some people, they grow up wanting to become a veterinarian, a doctor or even a marine biologist. But for one man, his dream of becoming a law enforcement officer has finally come true.
22-year-old Adam Slavick was welcomed with open arms into the Meridian Township Police Department as he was sworn in as the newest officer at the station on Jan. 25.
Slavick graduated from Michigan State University in December 2015 obtaining his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, where he also attended the Mid-Michigan Police Academy.
He also played a very active part during his internship when he worked for the Ingham County Prosecutors Office.
"I had an internship with Ingham County Prosecutor as a domestic violence victim advocate so I kinda worked closely with victims of domestic violence, kinda help them through the court process, helped with their various needs in those cases," Slavick mentioned.
Police Chief David Hall mentioned that he felt that is what sets Adam apart from other law enforcement officers.
"He has a unique angle/unique experience that the rest of the officers do not have," Chief Hall stated.
Once Police Chief Hall concluded his introduction…Adam made his way up to the podium, held his right hand in the air and began the oath of becoming an officer repeating:
"I do solemnly swear, that I will support the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of this state, and I will faithfully perform the duties of a police officer, in and for the township of Meridian, the county of Ingham state of Michigan, according to the best of my abilities so help me God."
Slavick is very excited to gather more knowledge with this new chapter in his life and cannot wait to begin his career with the Meridian Township Police Department.
"I mean they chose me so (as a big grin on appeared on his face)…I still have a long road in front of me and a lot to prove but I'm excited," he humbly said.
"We'll put our best resources into him and make him the finest officer that he can be," Police Chief Hall announced.
