MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - In 2014, the first Meridian Cares Emergency Needs Fundraiser took place. They managed to raise $8,300 in funds to help families in need. This year, for the second annual fundraiser the Meridian Cares Team set a goal of $10,000.
The check for this years fundraiser was presented to the Community Resources Commission on December 16th at Meridian Township's annual employee holiday luncheon. The Meridian Cares Team surpassed their goal, and presented a check $10,011.70 with more financial contributions still coming in.
The proceeds will go to residents of the township who need support during the holiday season. The Emergency Needs Fund helps residents with emergency neers such as eviction notices, utility shutoffs, and food.
Many local business's helped by donating gift baskets which are valued at $50 or above. The baskets served as the prizes for the raffle to encourage people to donate to the cause.
The Meridian Cares Program doesn't just sponsor the Emergency Needs Fund, however. They also sponsor a winter coat collection, Be a Santa to a Senior, and sponsor a holiday food basket.
