LANSING - Michigan Legislation approved to end straight ticket voting meaning voters don't have the ability to for vote for all candidates in one party by single selection.
In addition, the Senate will include a $1 million appropriation in the bill to eliminate straight ticket voting.
The appropriation will come from the General Fund to the Department of State and will also eliminate fraud prevention in elections and assist in ongoing compliance to name a few.
Meridian Township Clerk, Brett Dreyfus stated, "Some people believe it's a matter of efficiency by allowing straight party voting makes it more efficient and makes the lines move faster and others believe that the Democratic process requires thoughtful deliberation for every individual candidate."
The Democrats in the Senate also proposed no-reason absentee or early voting during the series of amendments but the Republicans shot down the proposals.
The Senate approved the bill in a 23-13 vote.
