OKEMOS - The Okemos Ski Team is ready to hit the slopes this season with 17 team members, eight girls and seven boys. Last year the team had 4 individuals qualify for State, two on the girl's side and two from the guys side of it. One of the boys placed 11th in the Giant Slalom Race, where you ski against the best high school skiers in the state of Michigan.
The Okemos ski team practices and competes at Mount Brighton about 40 minutes from the high school. The hill is almost guaranteed to have snow on it because of its peak which allows the ski team to get regular practice in.
Middle of November the Ski Team hosted a Ski Swap to raise money for the season. The team collected lightly used equipment and sold it, as if it were a consignment store. The day of the Swap happened to fall on a MSU football Saturday but overall money was raised for their season and Head Coach Jeff David said it was a success.
"All in all it was a really good deal for the team to generate some funds, we allow vendors to come and sell as well and they give us a percentage of their earnings, which allows us to provide better equipment for our team with the money that is earned," said Head Coach Jeff David.
