• The Spartan Dance Team use streamers in their dance routine

EAST LANSING - On Saturday, November 14th, the Spartan Stadium hosted the largest halftime show in Michigan State University's School history at the MSU vs Maryland football game.

The Spartan Dance Team was showcased in the event carrying streamer rods with silk flags while showing a more lyrical, modern dance repertoire.

MSU Color Guard Instructor, Peter Eichler, states, "The Spartan Dance Team will be used to highlight and showcase their talent as beautiful dancers."

"The ladies bring a mixture of modern and lyrical dance skill sets to help develop the show."

The Spartan Dance team practiced 3 days a week for 3 hours at time with additional weekly rehearsals for their streamer routine.

The 12 minute show with 5 musical selections was designed by Beijing artist, Jennifer Wen Ma.

Ma designed the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

"My inspiration came from the book, The Art of War, the oldest Chinese military classic attribute to high ranking General Sun Zao," mentions Ma.

Senior Spartan Dance Team Member, Effie Oates, says, "this is a way to welcome in diversity to MSU and it gives our International students a voice and makes the community more aware of how much we appreciate as Spartans being from around the world."

"To be a part of this experience as dancers and not just on the sideline is fantastic."

For the Spartan Dance Team, this was a once in a lifetime event where the ladies will always be remembered in Spartan history.
