MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Recess, arguably the most important subject in school for some students, gives kids time to monkey around before they slide back into the hallways for the rest of their school day.
At Williamston Community Schools, students get a total of 42 minutes for lunch time. That's 20 minutes outside on the playground, and 20 minutes to eat.
But, is 20 minutes enough?
"Quite honestly, 20 minutes is not gonna be enough for those kids to get out all their energy," said Drew Coker, a trainer at Spartan Performance. "Throughout the day they need to get 60 minutes of mild to vigorous activity in."
Pressure to succeed on standardized tests has reduced the time spent on the basketball court and playground, in order to make more time for studying in the classroom.
