OKEMOS - On September 26th, Okemos and Mason held their "Compete for a Cause" Soccer game. And now, a little over a month later, the players are seeing their hard work pay off.
While the game was won by Okemos, the real winners were both the MSU Pediatric Oncology Clinic and the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Captains from both Mason and Okemos met at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing to present their checks of $13,500 to each organization.
“I mean win or lose, I would do that event over and over again," said Okemos Soccer Captain Andre Garcia. "Just because the amount of support it showed and what it was for, it was incredible.”
Most of the money donated to MSU Pediatric Oncology clinic will help with facilities and nursing education, while St. Baldrick's raises money for cancer research.
