MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Greater Lansing Taxi Authority was formed in May, and has been plotting to regionalize standards for quality taxi service ever since.

The goal of the authority is to provide citizens with standard, regulated taxi services throughout the Greater Lansing region.

Meridian Township joined the authority in May.

The quality standards include assuring that drivers are monitored, and services are safe and consistent.

More cities and townships have elected to join the authority, as of recent.


"An update on that is that the other municipalities in the Greater Lansing Area have also joined, so we have now Lansing, East Lansing, the cities of, and the townships of Meridian, Delhi, Delta, and Lansing Township, are all part of the taxi authority now," said Meridian Township Board Trustee Angela Wilson.

However, the authority cannot directly give a "sticker of approval" to say that Uber drivers belong to the authority, since they are not technically a taxi service.

Uber drivers, however, are still subject to audits done by the taxi authority, to assure they are following the standards created by the GLTA.
