• Forsberg Drive at Ponderosa Estate

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Ingham County Road Department has received a petition to abandon a public road known as Forsberg Drive, which is dedicated for public use of Ponderosa Subdivision in Meridian Township. The Ingham County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on November 24th about this issue. The Meridian Township Board supported this petition at Tuesday, November 3rd's Township Board Meeting.

"The residents of Ponderosa Subdivision have come to us time and time and again to voice their position on this matter and we as a board should take a position that we are elected by the people to serve the people and we should support the people," said Trustee Milton L. Scales.

Deb Nolan, one of the Ingham County Commissioners also spoke up to support this abandonment.

"They all care that we abandon the Forsberg Drive, and do not make the connection between Ember Oaks and Ponderosa, and it is for no other reason than the safety of the Ponderosa neighborhood," said Nolan.

She also spoke at the meeting that the residents at Ponderosa Estate like to walk the street and ride bicycles, so it's used by the residents all the time, and they do not want additional traffic on that road due to safety concerns.

There were few comments from the Township Board that there should be an emergency connection between Ember Oaks and Ponderosa neighborhoods. The Board voted 5 to 2 on a new motion which included the pedestrian and an emergency pathway connection.

The Board voted 6 to 1 to abandon Forsberg Drive and support the petition being submitted to the Ingham County. The resolution of support from the Township Board will be sent to the Ingham County before the public hearing held by the Ingham County Board of Commissioners.
