LANSING - Members of the community gathered on Saturday to help warm hearts around the Greater Lansing area.
The American Heart Association's annual "Heart Walk" was held at Cooley Law Stadium over the weekend.
" We work really hard with sponsors, volunteers, and participants, to make sure that everybody has a good time, to help us raise awareness to get one done, and move heart disease from the number one killer of Americans, to the number two," said Rodney Parkkonen, Heart Walk Director.
In the land of hot dogs and home runs, you won't find a baseball star, but a walker inside Cooley Law Stadium.
However, the stadium was also home to one brave family; and a little girl who was even more brave.
Taylor Moore is a fighter, and has had Diastolic Dysfunction, her whole life, meaning her heart doesn't pump as well as it should.
"I just had to tell myself that I was going to be okay, because a lot of the time I didn't think I was going to be okay," said Moore. "I just had to tell myself that I was going to be okay."
This year's heart walk had numerous sponsors helping to make it all happen. The biggest group was McLarens of Lansing, with around 30 people out to support the Heart Association's efforts.
Nearly fifty-thousand dollars came in this year to help "get one, done."
