Lansing

LANSING - On Saturday October 10tj, six Lansing-area fire departments partnered together with the Waverly Street Home Depot in Lansing to put on a Fire Prevention Open House.

The fire departments of Lansing, Delhi Township, Delta Township, Meridian Township, East Lansing, and Lansing Township were at the Home Depot parking lot from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm with educational stations where they would talk about different kinds of equipment, such as teaching adults and kids alike how to operate a fire extinguisher.

There were also a couple of events throughout the day including a demonstration how firefighters dismantle a damaged car with an occupant trapped inside. The event was topped off with a live burn demonstrating how fast a fire can spread through a bedroom.

Inspector Roberts from the Delta Township Fire Department stated that the primary message of the open house was get people to be more diligent with their smoke alarms. Most fatal fires did not have a working smoke alarm on site. Inspector Roberts also wishes to remind people to smoke and cook responsibly.
