HASLETT - It was an exciting day for Haslett High School as they welcomed a group of 26 international Chinese students from Beijing Normal University into their classrooms to observe American instruction.
"The teachers in training have had an opportunity to move throughout our school day, interact in our classrooms, listen to highly effective instruction, and engage with our students with their learning," said Haslett High School Principal Bart Wegenke.
The instructors in-training were paired with a Haslett student varying of all grade levels as they observed their American ways in the classroom setting.
"Its really, really exciting because its quite different from China," Chinese International Student Yucien mentioned.
Yucien stated that he liked the fact that students are allowed to speak freely with your fellow classmates and teachers and he really enjoys the relaxed vibe in the classroom setting here at Haslett High.
"Teachers in China they always keep talking on the board but teachers here they really give the students the questions and let them answer it by themselves or teamwork and I think that is a good way to improve or encourage," Yucien said.
With all that encouragement comes the opportunities as Principal Wegenke states..."our International students and friends coming to Haslett, it gives them an opportunity to learn from our students and staff here at Haslett High School, but it also gives our students and staff and administrators an opportunity to learn from our International students."
And when Yucien was asked why he decided to come to America, his response was..."because curiosity, curiosity...first time to America and I was always thinking to come here. Education in America is pretty good in the world and so everybody maybe wants to come here and have a look so this is why I am here."
These 26 international educators in-training were at Haslett High School for the entire duration of Monday, October 5th.
"I'm just really excited about the opportunity to host our friends from China and hopefully they have a wonderful day here at Haslett High School and they can see all that goes in to being a teacher here in the United States," Principal Wegenke stated.
