MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Despite the cold and rainy weather residents of Meridian Township came together for the annual Fall Recycling Event. It was held at the Chippewa Middle School in Okemos, and ran by a handful of volunteers.
The area was set up so anyone who wanted to recycle could drive their car right up to a specific truck and volunteers would help unload the items.
Many recyclables were accepted ranging from egg cartons and packing peanuts to furniture and household items.
People brought their old bicycles, or their non-working incomplete bikes and bike parts.
Last fall, nearly 600 visitors from the region recycled 2 semi-trucks of electronics and 10,040 lbs of metal including appliances.
