MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Planning Commission continued their discussion on medical marihuana at their Sept. 28th meeting. The commission eventually denied the Zoning Amendment to establish definitions and standards for the medical use of marihuana in a 8-1 vote.
Following the resolution, Commissioner Richard Honicky stated he believes the legislature needs to clarify the definitions saying, "Therefore I think at this time, this resolution should be denied until such time as what I see a rapidly evolving environment around medical marihuana is clarified."
To make sure no one was confused, Planning Commission Chair, John Scott-Craig defined what denying the amendment meant saying, "Ok let me just clarify, yes means to vote to deny."
The Commission originally discussed the zoning amendment to regulate the location of medical marihuana use based on comments by staff during the September 14, 2015 meeting.
