HASLETT - Senior quarterback Jake Tahaney threw for three passing touchdowns in the first 17 minutes of play Friday night at Haslett. A perfect combination of scrambling, screens and sling shots down the field led the Vikings to a mistake-free night as they rolled Owosso, 45-0.
Haslett scored 35 points in the first half alone. Running back Mykal Stinson plowed into the end zone as halftime drew near, and the coaching staff had seen all it needed to from its undefeated squad, pulling Tahaney in the process.
Wide receivers Hayden Cross and Nate Magnusson stretched the field, each connecting on 40-plus yard touchdown receptions.
Tahaney's magnificent play, big boy Stinson, along with speed on the outside at wideout and corner, put the Vikings at 3-0 for the first time since 2007.
At halftime, Haslett High School honored the lives of those lost on this day 14 years ago. The Vikings cheeleaders released red, white and blue balloons in memory of the September 11 tragedy. The student section, too, donned red, white and blue.
