MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Improvements to Wonch Park in Meridian Township was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 2nd.
Township employees, residents, Park Commissioners and Township Board members were all in attendance as the ribbon was cut and the inaugural walk took place.
Wonch Park is one of the oldest parks in Meridian Township, acquired in 1969.
Construction of the 3/4 mile long paved pathway was made possible through a $45,000 Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund
grant. The entire project cost was $60,000.
“This new improvement to Wonch Park provides universal accessibility to all fifteen acres of this beautiful facility,” said LuAnn Maisner, Meridian Township Parks & Recreation Director.
The parking lot to the park was also recently repaved and striped. Future improvements to the park includes a new pavilion and exercise stations along the pathway.
