MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A part of a well-traveled bridge in Meridian Township is closed due to the deterioration of the bridges' structure.
The outer northbound lane on the Marsh Road Bridge between Haslett Road and Franklin Street closed on Monday, August 17th. Recent inspections found the need for repairs. The lane was closed a few weeks prior to construction to prevent further deterioration. Ingham County Road Department Managing Director Bill Conklin explained the need for the closure on such short notice.
"It's gotten to the point where there's distress underneath the structure under that outer north-bound lane, to the point it should not have any traffic on it until repairs can be made," Conklin said.
The bridge currently has reduced truck weight signs, and the entire bridge will be replaced in Summer, 2016.
