MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The new Central Fire Station in Meridian Township is set to be done an open by December 15, 2015, but with heavy rain fall this summer it has set the construction of the station behind schedule.
Currently, they're finishing up the walls for the east side of the station. The key thing next on schedule is to get the floor poured. With recent rain showers the ground is still too wet to pour the concrete floor, but Township Engineer, Raymond Severy, said DLZ Michigan Inc. is hoping things will be dry enough to pour the floor on July 22nd. After the floor is down it will need a few days to dry before interior walls can be built on it.
Severy said during the most recent construction meeting 20 rain days have been counted on work days since April 20th, which does not include the number of rain days they've encountered in July so far. Although behind schedule, the crew is still committed to getting the station completed on time. In order to do so, the crew will need to work extra hours on Saturdays which means they'll need some incentive to do so.
"So we have to decide what it will cost us to do that and if we want to do that, or if we want to delay the opening a little bit. So we'll talk to the manager and others in the Township and decide how we want to proceed," said Severy.
They're still figuring out what the added cost will be to get the project done on time, but Severy said they'll probably have to come a decision on what to do by sometime next week.
