LANSING - As a part of Parks and Recreation Month, the Michigan Recreation and Park Association held the "Come Out and Play" event at the Capitol on July 8th.
There were many events and activities to participate in, including disc golf, hula hooping, and canoe simulations. There were also several stations around the lawn to teach kids about nature, including a Michigan birds booth and an Emerald Ash Borer table.
"Getting outside and playing is good for the body, the mind, and the soul, and we have summer camps from all over the state that are here just having fun at the Capitol," said Ann Conklin, Chief Operating Officer of the Michigan Recreation and Park Association.
The MRPA also revealed their new brand campaign, including a new logo and a performance of their new theme song "Come Out and Play" by area artist Taylor Taylor.
Other special guests included Ronald McDonald and Maverick the Mallard from the Michigan DNR.
A group of kids from Meridian Township's Summer Playground Program went to the event as well.
In addition, the MRPA celebrated its 80th birthday.
