MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Lana Howell was one of 30 police offers that graduated Michigan State Universities staff and command school.
She has been with the Meridian Township Police Department for 20 years and was promoted sergeant after six years. Howell decided to volunteer for the program to gain more leadership skills.
The officers got to experience the administrative side of what the police department does.
Officers were required to complete different projects such as budgeting, social media and developing their own web page.
Lana Howell said, "Not only will it be helpful for me here at the department but once i leave here its something that i can put on my resume and they see that its a leadership and command type training to further advance your career."
Howell also said that the most challenging aspect of the school was learning how to budget.
