LANSING - Townships in Michigan will have more authority to address ordinance violations in mobile home parks after Governor Rick Snyder signed HB 4054 last week.

The bill, sponsored by Representative Andy Schor (D), was presented due to various health, safety and communicative issues which lead tot he the closing down of Riley Mobile Home park in Lansing earlier this year.

The bill will provide a distinction between the responsibilities of state and local entities in regulating mobile home parks and is meant to improve communication among agencies that oversee the parks. Representative Schor said this bill will also help mobile home owners speak up when a problem arises.

"They're afraid that if they complain about a bad situation then they're going to lose their home, but it not right for these folks to live in squalor and really bad conditions," Schor said.

State agencies will be require to notify local units of complaints about mobile park conditions and municipalities would also be told when the state inspects parks.
