LANSING - D. J. Davis singlehandedly outscored Peoria on Monday afternoon as Lansing cruised to a 12-4 victory over the Chiefs at Cooley Law.
The 20-year old lefty knocked in eight Lugnuts in just six innings. He finished the game four for five, including a grand slam, a three-run double, and another RBI double for good measure. Davis tied the franchise record for RBI's just over the halfway mark of the game.
On the other side of the batter's box, Shane Dawson picked up his eighth win of the season after pitching five strong innings, with six strikeouts, five hits and only two earned runs. Tim Mayza and Dusty Isaacs both pitched two innings to preserve the victory for the Nuts.
While the pitching wasn't perfect, it was strong when it needed to be. Dawson and Mayza stranded runners in nearly every inning, and the Chiefs finished the game with a paltry one for 13 with runners in scoring position.
