LANSING - On May 21, Lansing Catholic quarterback Tony Poljan announced on Twitter his commitment to Minnesota.
Poljan is just a junior, but his large frame and strong arm proved interesting to many division 1 schools, who looked at him for both basketball and football. Although having only played at the quarterback position for two years, his head coach Jim Aher says Poljan is head and shoulders, literally, above the rest.
"What stands out the most is that he works so hard to improve his game, and he's still getting better," says Aher. "I see him succeeding at anything he does because he'll work so hard to make it happen."
ESPN ranks Poljan as a three-star recruit for their 2016 class. He threw for nearly 3,000 yards with 35 touchdowns and only three interception en route to a state championship appearance for Lansing Catholic. Their team finished 13-1 in division 5 football.
According to Aher, Poljan chose Minnesota not only for football, but because of their exceptional business school. A class of 2016 graduate, the newfound Gopher has another year as a Cougar before making the trip out to the twin cities.
