UPDATE:
OKEMOS - On September 15, the Ingham County Medical Care Facility had broke ground on their $1.6 million project, Dementia Unit. According to IMCF administrator Mark Stevens, the unit is to meet the needs of residents who have been struggling of Dementia.
The addition will assist residents by creating an environment that feels comfortable and familiar, as a home would, rather than an institutional setting. IMCF focuses less about physical structures and more about the feeling inspired by the quality of the environment.
The dementia unit will include an activity zone with recreational opportunities such as multi-sensory experiences as well as comfortable places to rest.
The project is all self-funded and the unity will be completed by March 2012.
