HASLETT - Bitterness between Bulldogs and the Vikings has been well documented between all competitive sports.

On Thursday, girls soccer proved they're no different. Haslett fought tough against Mason and came back to tie the match 2-2 through overtime.

Mason jumped out to an early lead in the first half with two goals. Haslett head coach Jack Vogel explained the simple reason his team trailed at half.

"In the first half we made great passes to Mason, and Mason made us pay for that," said Vogel.

It was a mid-game adjustment for the Vikings: play down the wings, attack those who had the ball and be the first one on a header.

"We felt like we needed to possess the ball," said Vogel. "Because when we possessed the ball, we were running less."

Their dividends paid off in the second half. With just over 20 minutes to go in the game, Haslett fought back. Maddie Lottman made it a one goal game, and less than two minutes later Charlie Campbell tied it up.

The teams, knotted up after 80 minutes, played 20 more. After injuries, penalties and close calls, the score ended in overtime as it began: 2-2

The tie with their rivals brings Haslett to 4-2-1 on the season. They continue their campaign for the CAAC cup with East Lansing on Saturday.
