EAST LANSING - More than 1,500 campuses across the country have gone tobacco free, and a new task force at Michigan State is hoping to add MSU to this list.
 
This task force has recently been holding sessions where both supporters and those with concerns can ask questions and get answers. The task force is aimed at making campus a safe and clean environment for everyone, but some people are concerned about how these changes overall may affect the university.

"One question a lot of people have is going to be about enforcement. We are not doing this as a punitive measure, we don't want to be giving people tickets and charging fines," said Jason Cody, the Media Communications Manager of the task force. "What this is more about is changing the culture of the campus and creating a healthier campus.
  
A proposal from the task force will be presented to the University Board of Trustees within the next few months, and if approved, the ordinance would go into effect mid-2016, giving the community time to adjust.
