LANSING - A five hundred thousand dollar grant has allowed for the Ingham County Health Center's dental practice to hit the streets.
The grant was provided by HERSA, or the Health Resources and Services Administration. HERSA federally funds health centers, and has funded the creation of Ingham County's mobile dental center.
The bus was unveiled on Friday, April 17. The Ingham County Health Department is hoping that it can be rolling into local schools before the year is out.
"This really creates phenomenal access in the community to people who really are struggling with a number of different issues, and trying to get out to one of our clinics to see a dentist or a hygienist or something like that. It's just an additional challenge and an additional struggle," said Linda Vail, Ingham County Health Officer.
The dental office on wheels is equipped to take x-rays, provide teeth cleanings, and help prevent cavities from forming on school-aged children's teeth,
The bus's first stop is still up in the air.
