LANSING - Rain couldn't keep the Nuts or their fans from enjoying an opening day win. Despite a delayed start due to rain, the Nuts came out on fire, defeating Lake County 3-2.
The biggest bright spot coming from the day one win, was the performance put on by starting pitcher Chase DeJong. De Jong, set a career high for strikeouts as he racked up 9 K's in 4.2 innings pitched. He did allow one walk and a run leaving with him with a 1.93 ERA for the day.
Lansing scored when they needed to and did not waste any opportunities to score. Despite a team batting average of .138, the Nuts offense managed 3 RBI's en route to their win. 3 players hit at over the .300 mark, CF DJ Davis, LF Chris Carlson, and 3B Gunnar Heidt. This was the first of a 2 day, 3 game homestand against Lake County.
