LANSING - CATA held its sixteenth annual Health Fair on Friday, April 10th.

The event attracted more than 400 people at CATA's downtown Transportation Center.

More than 30 organizations set up signs and provided health checks and services for the public.

Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine is a partner with CATA. Medical students and faculty members provide a variety of free screenings at the center of the room.

CATA CEO Sandy Draggoo says it is a win-win situation as people can get free health checks while the students can get practical experience.

"You get to have these different kinds of screenings. You get a glucose check. You get a cholesterol check. You get a blood pressure check. and the doctor in training is getting experience of learning how to deal with you as a patient," she said.

MSUCOM student Patrick Yousif said, "We are trying to educate people on avoiding sugary drinks, like suits that have a lot of sodium, trying to help them increasing exercise activity."

Other organizations that joined in this year's health fair included Tri-County Office on Aging, Ingham County Health Department, Newborn Health from Michigan Department of Community Health, as well as Sparrow Hospital.
