OKEMOS - While most high school seniors are focusing on applying to colleges or hanging out with their friends over the summer, Okemos resident Scott MacGuidwin is busy performing research on Alzheimer's Disease.
Working under Ari Gafni, a biophysics professor at the University of Michigan, MacGuidwin commuted from Okemos to Ann Arbor everyday this past summer.
MacGuidwin studied the effects of Homocysteine, an amino acid found in patients with Alzheimer's. His success led him to be named a national semifinalist in in the Intel Corporation's Science Talent Search, among other honors.
Although he has not decided which college he plans to attend yet, he does know that he wants to continue his science research and maybe one day act as a liaison between legislature and scientists.
