INGHAM COUNTY - The Ingham County Sheriff's Office was honored with the Advancing Change Award for their work with the Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force.
Ingham County became involved with the task force, housed at Michigan State, early on. This is because they were asked to represent all the counties in the state of Michigan.
When the organization needed a larger facility to operate at it's full extent, Ingham County let them use their facilities, resulting in the award.
Detective Bradley Delaney worked on one of the first human trafficking cases to break in Ingham County, and has some advice as to who is at-risk of being trafficked.
"The most obvious signs are, you know the people that we were dealing with as far as victims of these cases come from troubled past," said detective Brad Delaney. "They're easily preyed upon. They're naive."
Detective Delaney also says that victims are often runaways, who frequently miss school. These individuals may also be seeking out narcotics, or a party lifestyle.
Detective Delaney extended his thanks to the federal and local prosecutors that helped crack his first case, as well as the other investigators who worked on the case.
