MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At the March 23rd Planning Commission meeting, part of an rezoning project by the Eyde Company was approved.
A motion was made to amend the initial proposal, which made only a certain part of the part of the property zoned as commercial. The property is on Central Park Drive near Wal-Mart.
The area that was not changed to a commercial zoning was one that currently doesn't have many businesses on it.
The portion allowed to be made commercial, was one that is already near a more developed area.
"What I understand is, that we should have some kind of buffer between commercial and any of the residential areas," said Commissioner Richard Honicky.
The Commission ultimately voted, and passed the rezoning of just a portion of the Eyde property to C-2, or commercial zoning.
The vote was passed 7-1.
It was several commissioner's goals to make sure that there is a cohesive zoning structure down Central Park Drive, until there is a clearer picture of what will go down that roadway.
