LANSING - Hyped as a game between two superstars, everyone at the Don Johnson Fieldhouse clearly saw who had the better team Tuesday night.
Lansing Everett's Trevor Manuel may have come in third in the Mr. Basketball of Michigan voting, but his team just might be the favorites to win the Class A state title after taking apart Deyonta Davis and defending champion Muskegon, 75-52.
The Michigan State commit Davis, who took home the Mr. Basketball of Michigan award a day before the game, made an impact but not at quite the level that was expected. Davis finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds, both under his season averages, but did impress with seven blocks.
Oregon commit Manuel, on the other hand, looked completely in the zone with the help of his supporting cast. Manuel's 24 points were a game-high.
"My teammates, they come out to play every night," Manuel said after the win. "They give it their all every game, and they come out and they show out."
Everett goes on to play AP's No. 6 Saginaw Arthur Hill (23-3) at the Breslin Center this Friday at 1pm in the state semis. Arthur Hill lost to Muskegon on December 20, 2014 in a nail-biter, 65-63.
The Lumberjacks are coming off a walloping of its own in a, 78-59, smash down over Walled Lake Central. Arthur Hill features Texas commit and Mr. Basketball of Michigan runner-up, Eric Davis.
