MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Winter turns to spring, spring will turn to summer and still no Whole Foods.
The grocery chain that was initially scheduled for an opening in the next few months has been approved for a few expansions which will set back the ribbon cutting possibly even into the fall.
The latest expansion granted was for an interior storage and personal area of around 3,200 square feet. This will not change the footprint of the building but two other approved additions will be resulting in a delayed opening day according to Associate Planner Martha Wyatt
She said, "That did expand the foot print about 6,000 square feet on the west so that part would be pushing the opening back a little bit just because they had to order more steel and materials for the addition."
Counting the latest additions the total Whole Foods site will be about 44,000 square feet. While the actual date for the opening is still not known, Wyatt believes it will be sometime this fall.
