MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Water meter replacements around Meridian Township started Monday, March 2nd. Around four hundred meters are being replaced at full-steam ahead.
The problem with the meters lies within the bronze-back component of the meter, where a magnet has come loose and caused the meters to give faulty readings.
Meters starting with serial number 833 are those that need to be replaced.
Readings and water bills still went out, based on an estimate.
The project is expected to be mostly finished sometime in the next few weeks.
"To replace the water meter, residents just have to make appointments," said Ray Severy, Meridian Township Director of Public Works and Engineering.
"They have to be home when we do the water meter replacement, which in most cases will take a half hour or less, unless there's some kind of problem. The inconvenience for the homeowner is that they have to be there while we're doing it to let us in the house," said Severy.
Replacement of the meters is being done with the help of the Michigan Meter Technology Group and H20 Services.
