MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - After many roadblocks along the way, the construction of a new fire station in Meridian Township is moving forward.
The Township Board unanimously approved the final bids for the new Central Fire Station at tonight's meeting.
Clerk Brett Dreyfus credits the hiring of a professional construction management firm for the bids coming in under budget. The last round of bidding that took place came in significantly over budget.
Dreyfus said that he, along with many others, can breathe a sigh of relief that the bids passed.
The next step is breaking ground on the construction of the station at the corner of Okemos Road and Central Park Drive.
Earlier this week, Township Manager Frank Walsh said, "We would hope to break ground maybe by the end of the month, and probably move into the station around Dec. or Jan."
