EATON RAPIDS - HOMTV traveled to the Le Chat Culinary Kitchen to learn the "how to" for pots and pans when it comes to learning how to cook.
New to cooking and confused as to what pots and pans you should buy for your kitchen?
We met up with Chef Denene Vincent at the Le Chat Culinary Kitchen to find out the basic needs for cooking.
Vincent says the first thing you should do is cater your pots and pans collection to your cooking needs.Your pots and pans don't have to match, and an easy way to figure out what to purchase, is to focus on the kinds of foods you like to eat.
When it comes to pots and pans, Vincent uses a top five rule.
1. The first is a "Dutch Oven." Dutch Ovens allow food to be cooked low and slow and can go on the stove top or in the oven. The most common uses for one is for braising, stewing and casseroles. Dutch Ovens also tenderizes meats.
2. Stock Pots come in different sizes and have a main purpose of creating and cooking stock. However, there are other uses. With Stock Pot potatoes and pasta can also be cooked.
3. Third are Sauce Pans. Sauce pans are tall on the sides, has a long handle on one side and a circular one on the other. The handles allow even distribution to the pan when lifting it.
4. Is the category for a Saute Pan. Saute pans are good for searing meats and sauteing vegetables. Vincent recommends a cast iron pan as a saute pan.
5. Lastly is a non-stick pan with a slanted lip. The non-pan allows easy cooking for pancakes, crepes and omlets.
The most important thing when it comes to cooking is to enjoy yourself and have a good time.
